Spring is Close!

February 22nd, 2010

Warmer temperatures are around the corner.  Please remember to have your HVAC unit checked and serviced to make sure it is working properlybefore the heat really sets in.

Here are a few other tips to help with the efficiency of your unit.

Do Not Block Airflow:  For efficient airflow, keep furniture, drapes and other objects away from registers.

Make Adjustments:  The registers can be adjusted to provide the desired temperature for each room.

Do Not Close All Registers:  Never close more than 30% of the registers in your home at one time. Reduced airflow will not only place strain on the HVAC fan unit, but can result in condensation and water damage in higher humidity rooms

The St. George Art Festival is Right Around the Corner

February 22nd, 2010

Friday April 2nd and Saturday the 3rd, 2010

The St. George Art Festival began 30 years ago showcasing the many artists who call St. George their home. Over the years it has expanded to include over 110 artists juried from hundreds of entries from throughout the United States. This festival has regional appeal for both artists and festival goers. Displaying thousands of original works of art, the festival is punctuated with pageantry, music and food. The festival takes place in the beautiful Town Square, the centerpiece of the Historic District, and is known for consistently outstanding artwork.

The mild, sunny climate of St. George is particularly suited for this outdoor event. Artwork is displayed in booths designed individually by each artist. The many categories of art accepted include watercolor, oils, pottery, sculpture, photography, woodwork, and other creations. The show offers cash awards for Best of Show, Best 2D and 3D and ribbons for all categories. In addition, an artist’s work is selected each year to grace the following year’s poster. This Featured Artist receives a complementary entry into the festival.

There will also be entertainment and lots of good food. Come join us for a terrific Spring event!

February 16th, 2010

Yoshi Okubo Tanaka was born in Riverside, California, the 2nd oldest of 7 children of Tometsugu Okubo and Miejoko Kato. There were 5 other brothers and 1 sister. She is the only survivor of all the siblings.

Yoshi attended school in Riverside, then went on to Riverside Community College and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree at UCLA, majoring in Art. Art was central to the family life, her mother was a calligrapher, her sister and brother and an uncle all were artists in their own right.

Prior to marrying, Yoshi and a girl friend opened an art gallery at the Mission Inn in Riverside, CA. Then she married Shigeru Tanaka, an art student. They settled in Pomona, CA until World War II broke out, when they and their 2 sons were interned along with 110,000 others of Japanese-American descent in various relocations centers scattered in the western states. They were sent to Heart Mountain, Wyoming Relocation Camp.

After the end of the war, they briefly lived in New York City, where Yoshi’s younger sister, Mine’ Okubo, also an accomplished artist/writer had moved earlier. And finally moved back to Riverside, California, where they started a chicken ranch and farming.

Yoshi gave up her art career until her 3 children were grown and then in the early 70’s moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, started up her art career again at the early age of 65 and made a living selling paintings and traveling the world, to Europe, Asia, South America and places in between. Among her most interesting places to travel were St. Petersburg, Moscow, the Great Wall of China and the heights of Mancha Pichu.

As a native of Riverside, she was pillar in the community offering her services to friends, church and civic organizations. She is an accomplished cook and gracious hostess. She devoted her life to family and friends.

In 2003 and 2004 Yoshi was awarded 1st place in Women’s 5k Run 95-99 Division at the Huntsman World Senior Games and in 2008 Woman of Achievement at the Miss Washington County Fair Scholarship Program. She was also honored at the Susan B. Kolman Breast Cancer Survivors’ Program.

Another great advantage of owning a SunRiver home is that we only use Low E windows.  Whether you need to control the desert summers relenting heat, shade the suns glare, or fight winters grip on heat loss. Low E windows high performance glass is the solution.

Additionally, the Low E glass can meet Energy Star guidelines so youll save energy and money over ordinary clear glass. It offers better insulating value, blocks 84 percent of harmful ultraviolet radiation and light shines in with no bluish, hazy tint to obstruct your outside view.

This is a great product that saves energy and improves the comfort of your home.

The Scents of Freshness

February 16th, 2010

Recently, a new supermarket opened in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

It has an automatic water mister, to keep the produce fresh.

Just before it goes on, you hear the sound of distant thunder, and the smell of  fresh rain.

When you pass the milk cases, you hear cows mooing, and you experience the scent of fresh cut hay.

In the meat department, there is the aroma of charcoal grilled steaks and brats.

When you approach the egg case, you hear hens cluck and cackle, and the air is filled with the pleasing aroma, of bacon and eggs frying.

The bread department features the tantalizing smell of fresh baked bread, & cookies.

I don’t buy toilet paper there anymore.

New SunRiver Sales Agent

February 8th, 2010

I’ve often heard people say “Home Is Where Your Heart Is” and, since moving to Sun River, I really know what that means.  My name is Shiela Coble and I am the new Resale Agent for Sun River.  Since my husband, Tom, and I moved to Sun River in 2007, this place has become my “heart” as well as my home.

I have been in the real estate and mortgage industry for over 20 years.  I began my career as a Title Examiner for Chicago Title in 1987.  In 1993, we relocated to Toledo, Ohio and I worked for Loss Realty Group as a Loan Officer establishing their in-house mortgage company, Mortgage Loan Originators.  Upon leaving Loss Realty Group, I was employed by Charter One Bank as a Senior Loan Officer and continued in that position until our move to St. George.

In the time we have been residents of Sun River, we have built two homes and I began working in the Sun River Sales Office.  I also obtained my real estate license in the State of Utah.  When Merrill Russell retired from the resale side of Sun River recently, I was given the opportunity to become part of the sales team here and am enjoying it very much.

As a resident who loves EVERYTHING Sun River has to offer (especially the golf), I firmly believe in this place and doing the best job I can for you in selling your home!   I would welcome the opportunity to meet you and discuss how I can be of service with your real estate needs.  You can always find me in the Sun River sales office or tooling around the golf course – I look forward to getting to know all of you.  I can be reached at 688-1000.
