Zion Narrows Service Project

Mark your calendars because a week from tomorrow (Wednesday, August 23), Zion National Park is hosting an exclusive service project in the park. Leaving at 7:15 a.m. from the Temple of Sinawava shuttle stop, the service project will include a 7-mile interpretive hike through the famed Zion Narrows. Presented through the Zion National Park Forever Project, this is an opportunity to experience the Narrows with an experienced naturalist who will discuss the canyon and park’s geology, plants and animal life.

Please note that much of the walk will take place directly in the Virgin River, so participants should be prepared to get wet and walk on river rocks with the assistance of a walking stick.

The naturalist guiding the walk will also teach hikers about the power of flash floods to shape the landscape of the cherished national park, show off gorgeous hanging gardens and the massive vertical slabs of Navajo sandstone that make up the canyon’s unique composition. The group will hike to the confluence of Orderville Canyon, which is expected to take roughly eight hours total.
