Hiking Kanarraville Falls

One of the great benefits of living in SunRiver is its close proximity to all the natural beauty Southern Utah has to offer. Outdoor adventures are just a short hike away, with dozens upon dozens of gorgeous trails to choose from for everyone from new beginners to the most experienced avid hikers. Just 13 miles south of Cedar City, the Kanarra Creek Trail – more commonly known as Kanarraville Falls – is a perfect hike for a short weekend getaway.

The hike takes visitors up a beautiful slot canyon and through Kanarra Creek multiple times, leading to two sets of stunning waterfalls. That’s right, this hike can’t be done without consistently wading through three to eight inches of water but the view is more than worth it, so prepare to cool off and get wet! The trail is often small and winds through diverse foliage native to Southern Utah, with plenty of shade provided by the canyons walls and only partial sun exposure.

Be aware that the trail is busiest during the hot summer months when everyone is trying to escape the heat, and is typically covered with snow and ice during the winter.  Also keep in mind that reaching the upper falls requires a fairly steep climb up a log ladder with metal steps attached to it, which is likely to be the most challenging portion of the hike.
