Where to Golf in St. George, Utah

It’s the middle of winter. You’re playing eighteen holes wearing a light jacket. Sunshine and blue skies overhead intensify the deep green of the manicured fairways and greens.

Is this paradise?

Close. It’s golf in southern Utah. Thanks to mild winter weather, St. George is a golf sanctuary while northern courses are blanketed in snow and ice. If your clubs are calling out to you from their winter resting place, here is a lineup of ten world-class courses in and around St. George.

SunRiver is home to one of southern Utah’s greatest championship golf courses. The course is nestled in the Virgin River Valley surrounded by colorful desert landscape. Fairway Magazine wrote:

Bloomington Country Club – Southern Utah’s first eighteen-hole golf course is tucked into a bend of the Virgin River by the vivid red cliffs of Bloomington Hills. This walkable course has been described as one of the most alluring golf courses in the country. Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club – Towering red and white sandstone cliffs of Snow Canyon State Park provide the backdrop for Entrada. The closing holes aptly named “The Devil’s Cauldron” will grab your full attention.

Sky Mountain Golf Course is as scenic as it is challenging. Sky Mountain boasts rolling fairways and tabletop greens framed by red sand, twisted red rock landscape and lava-filled desert.

Coral Canyon Golf Course  This Keith Foster designed course fits into the environment, weaves around native land formations and offers generously wide fairways and greens designed to allow you to run the ball all the way to the hole.

Sand Hollow Golf Course incorporates steep ridgelines, deep canyons, red rock outcroppings and expansive elevations to create an incredible golf experience. The Ledges Golf Course , a Matt Dye designed course sits breathtakingly close to the rim of Snow Canyon State Park, 900 feet above the St. George Utah valley. It provides challenging play past the rough red rock terrain that surrounds this course.

Green Spring Golf Course  There are many water hazards to negotiate, and it offers an excellent test of golf. Holes 5 and 6, possibly two of the best holes in Utah, have you shooting across red rock ravines.

St. George City public courses

Sunbrook Golf Club – Three of the holes on this course are carved out of the native lava rock. Two of the best-known and most challenging holes of this course are:

  • The Point Nine- veer to the left and your ball will end up 100 feet down on the second hole.

  • The Black Rock Nine- surrounded by lava rock with a water hazard just to the right of the green.

Dixie Red Hills – Located in the heart of St. George. It is set beneath breathtaking red cliffs, tucked among mature cottonwoods, mesquite and Mondale Pines. Dixie is walkable with a relaxed and friendly feel.

Southgate Golf Club – Described as ‘a golf course with multiple personalities.’ It weaves around the Santa Clara River and hillsides of St. George. It will test even the most accurate golfers, enticing you to attempt some risk and reward shots. It’s an enjoyable round of golf rather than a brutal test of skills.

St. George Golf Club – Described as a walkable course that winds its way through the Ft. Pearce Wash with unique golf character and favorable greens. The open layout, and areas around large manicured greens are forgiving for players with less than perfect shots. An older course, the greens are not too tricky, and longer putts are easier to sink even for the average player.
